Wisdom teeth also known as your 3rd molars and are the last teeth to come in! They usually come in the teen years but can come even as late as in your twenties. If the wisdom teeth are properly aligned, and the gum is heallthy they do not need to be removed however if they are crowded, tillted, or impacted and causing pain removal of the wisdom teeth would be recommended.
Its best to start with a consultation appointment when your wisdom tooth or teeth are causing you pain or discomfort. We at Seymour Dental would first start with a panorex which is a a full xray of the oral cavity. This shows the picture of all your teeth and surroounding bone. Dr.Lee will be able to see how the wisdom teeth are growing in and how the roots are shaped that way he can make you a appropriate treatment plan.
For patients that are a bit more anxious Dr. Lee does a variety of sedations such as light concious sedation where he administers a medication prior to the appointment , or nitrious oxide sedation.
Some wisdom teeth are a bit more stubborn to come out than others. Depending on if the tooth is not impacted, tilted, or has curved roots it may need to be sectioned.
After your extraction appointment there is going to be some light swelling expected. We recommend that you take some time off from work or school to have a good recovery and that you plan your appointment when you dont have any big celebrations or events.
Its important that you talk to the staff and Dr. Lee about your concerns, risks, and any complications that may result from surgery. Its important to come in for regular checkups and to monitor your wisdom teeth.
